Interactive lighting panel

I am constructing an art piece that consists of multiple incandescent lamps which are going to be controlled by computer. Each light can have a different brightness and I intend to make this piece reactive to the presence of a person in front of the unit. Check out the front and back of the partially completed light box.

I designed a circuit to control eight lamps at 110vac from a serial port. I used a CAD package to do the art work necessary to make a printed circuit board. Recently these boards came back from being manufactured and now I have to start soldering components in place. The dimmer boards make use of an Atmel 8-bit microcontroller to control the on-time of a set of eight opto-isolated triacs and this provides for a sort of pulse-width modulation of the AC mains.
